Combination of Multiple Repeat Orbits of ENVISAT for Mining Deformation Monitoring

چکیده
In conventional differential radar interferometry (DInSAR), the ground surface displacement can be measured along the line-ofsight. In order to measure the vertical and horizontal displacements DInSAR results of the same deformation derived from at least two different look directions are required. This study utilised the DInSAR results generated from ENVISAT data acquired from three different look angles to determine the 3-D displacement vectors resulting from surface deformation due to underground mining. However, The ENVISAT results showed ambiguous phases due to high phase gradients in the differential interferogram. The newly acquired ALOS/PALSAR data is also used here to demonstrate how the high phase gradient problem can be overcome by using interferometric signals with longer wavelength and finer imaging resolution.

Monitoring of mining induced surface deformation
The main objective of the project ”Monitoring of mining induced surface deformation” (ALOS-RA-94) is to evaluate multi-temporal PALSAR data for land surface deformation monitoring, using interferometric techniques. Differential interferometry using PALSAR data over several mining sites in Germany, Poland and Czech Republic, as well as over alpine landslides in Switzerland and Italy was used to ...
متن کاملInterferometric Monitoring of an Active Underground Mining Field with High-resolution Sar Sensors
Underground mining activities lead to ground movements at the earth surface. An area-wide monitoring and the documentation of mining induced influences are required by the mining authorities. Work done in the past confirmed a significant potential of SAR interferometric methods to contribute information to such monitoring. Nevertheless, in spite of advanced SAR interferometric processing techni...
متن کاملApplication of Sar Interferometric Techniques for Surface Deformation Monitoring
Over the last years surface deformation monitoring with interferometric SAR (INSAR) techniques reached some maturity. Important elements contributing to this increasing importance included the development of advanced processing techniques and the rich existing SAR data archives containing information on surface movements since 1991, the currently operated SAR sensors in orbit (ERS-2, ENVISAT AS...
متن کاملAssessment of radar interferometry performance for ground subsidence monitoring due to underground mining
This paper describes the results from the recently launched SAR satellites for the purpose of subsidence monitoring over underground coal mine sites in the state of New South Wales, Australia, using differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) technique. The quality of the mine subsidence monitoring results is mainly constrained by noise due to the spatial and temporal decorre...
متن کاملRadar Interferometry for Safe Coal Mining in China
Land surface deformation due to underground mining is always a concern to the local communities and environment. The underground coal mines at the study site in Northern China are located quite closely to each other. In order to ensure safe mining as well as to prevent illegal mining activities, differential radar interferometry (DInSAR) was introduced for monitoring mine subsidence. The spaceb...
